“外国人在中国”系列丛书取材于央视4 套《外国人在中国》栏目。该栏目是中央电视台中文国际频道（CCTV-4）于2013 年2 月25 日起推出的以外国人为主体的纪实性专题节目。书中纪录了外国人在中国的学习、工作和生活，生动地反映中国丰富多彩的传统文化，也折射出当代中国的发展变化和开放包容的文化氛围。书中的人物与故事为中外文化交流搭建起一座桥梁。
“Foreigner in China”Series takes material from the feature program “Foreigners in China” of CCTV 4. This program was firstly aired in February 25, 2013, and it’s the first documentary program focused on how foreigners learn, work and live in China. The book series reflects not only Chinese traditional culture and inclusively open atmosphere, but also exhibits the development and tremendous changes taken place in contemporary China. The main characters and their stories in these books have been acting as a bridge of cultural exchange between China and other countries.

Here is the stage of the finals of “I Want to Perform in the Spring Festival Gala” presented by CCTV. The Cuban young man performing on the stage is named Elvis Alberto Triana Eng. Today is the day to decide whether Elvis can be on the Spring Festival Gala. For this, he performs the song created by himself, Chinese New Year: “At half past two in the morning, north wind brings the snow. The auspicious snow from Heaven arrives on New Year’s Eve. I haven’t raised the cup with half cup of wine to celebrate. I still write the Spring Festival couplets in grass script before the lamp. Let’s be happy together. Let’s be happy together. In order to be on the “Spring Festival Gala”, Elvis overcame all the difficulties in the way and prepared for half a year. He has prepared for “Chinese New Year”, he performs on the stage of the finals for two months, inviting very capable persons to give guidance on his creation, selection of song dance and other aspects. Even so, Elvis is still not confident. He has quite much pressure, because he treats it as an important program. Elvis says: “‘I Want to Perform in the Spring Festival Gala’. If you win, you can be on the ‘Spring Festival Gala’. This is a dream. It is not a dream of mine only. It’s a dream of all singers and actors.”
During the period when preparing for the performance, Elvis made great efforts. In order to sing “Chinese New Year”, the song he created in a perfect and authentic Chinese style, he invites a teacher to teach him singing, namely his wife Yizhuo. Elvis says: “I remember that the first song I wrote is for my wife, named Marry Me, Chinese Girl. Later, she married me.” Elvis and his wife knew each other for a performance. In 2009, Elvis attended “Star Way” presented by CCTV and won the championship, thus becoming a slightly famous singer. Once, Elvis was invited to give a commercial performance in Inner Mongolia, and it was this performance that brought Elvis and Yizhuo together. Elvis says: “In 2009 when I attended ‘Star Way’, among all the contestants, I was in the top six ones of the year. In Inner Mongolia, there was a concert. At that time, we took the same plane when going there.” Yizhuo recalls: “His seat happened to be next to mine.” Back then, Yizhuo was also invited to attend the same commercial performance. They took the same plane flying from Beijing. They sat next to each other, but they didn’t know each other. During the performance, they cared more about each other as they had met on the plane. Strangely, when returning to Beijing from Inner Mongolia, they took the same flight again and still sat next to each other. Elvis says: “It’s quite good. And we started to chat. And I kept her phone number. When we arrived in Beijing, we hadn’t seen each other for six months. One day, at a party of friends, we met again. She seemed to be a little too shy to talk to me, so I talked to her actively. After that day, I started to call her and send messages to her, then we started to date.”
