The day before the Winter Solstice, Little Mi visits her Grandpa with her mom and dad. When the car arrives at the entrance of the village, the sun had already set behind the mountains.
“The stage!” Little Mi suddenly called in excitement. “Mom, dad! I saw the stage for the play!”
“Oh, but the stage is still empty,” Dad replies.
“Boring…” Little Mi turns her head.
Every year when they enter the village, Little Mi looks forward to seeing the stage but every year the stage is empty and desolate. Her dad recounts that when she was little, the people in the village would invite theatrical groups to sing the Chinese opera before the Winter Solstice. In order to celebrate the birthday of the villager’s ancestors, you had to sing five days and five nights in a row!
